This module will cover fundamental concepts including the pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis, and treatment of cholecystitis. The learner will understand the pivotal role that IR plays in management of this common disease process.

Learning Objectives

  • Examine the presentation and diagnosis of patients with acute and chronic cholecystitis.
  • Review management principles and treatment options for cholecystitis.
  • Identify patients who would benefit from IR procedures (e.g. percutaneous cholecystostomy).
  • Describe complications related to surgical cholecystectomy vs percutaneous cholecystostomy and review the subsequent management of these complications.
