Residency Essentials: Pediatric & Adult Vascular Malformations
Pediatric and Adult Vascular Malformations
This course will review the ISSVA classification of vascular malformations and discuss the clinical characteristics, imaging findings, and treatment options for each major entity. The genomic basis of various vascular malformations will be briefly described with a description of some of the more established targeted medical therapies.
Expected completion time: 4 hours
Course reviewed and updated 5/2024
Learning Objectives
- Recite the major categories of vascular malformations as described by the ISSVA Classification and be able to sort each malformation into vascular tumor, low-flow, or high-flow, as well as simple or combined types.
- Compare the clinical presentations, courses of progression, imaging characteristics, and treatment options for the various major vascular malformations.
- Describe the vascular malformations associated with overgrowth syndromes.
- Understand genomic implications of some of the vascular malformations as they pertain the most established targeted therapies currently available.
- Review the basics of interventional management of vascular malformations including patient selection, pre-procedural workup, sclerotherapy and embolization techniques, and patient follow up.
