The primary learning goal of this course is to review the core concepts related to the epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, and imaging evaluation of an acute ischemic stroke. These principles should be well understood in order to make an accurate diagnosis and provide expedient and appropriate management for patients with an acute ischemic stroke.

Learning Objectives
- Review the prevalence, pathophysiology, and natural history of acute ischemic stroke.
- Recognize the signs, symptoms, and mimics of an acute ischemic stroke.
- Score the severity of an acute ischemic stroke on the NIH Stroke Scale.
- Identify the more common imaging manifestations of a stroke across multiple modalities.
- Discuss the benefits and limitations of each type of imaging study and its appropriate utilization in the management of a patient with an acute ischemic stroke.
